In what it could be called as showcasing the capability of Indian Army to go beyond the border and carry out its operations, the government has decided to celebrate 3-day second anniversary of Surgical strike --- conducted against cross border terror launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) on the intervening night of September 28-29, 2016, throughout the country from September 28.
Sources in the defence ministry said, “Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate the event on September 28. Some movies, videos and pictures of our armed forces will be displayed in the 3-day exhibition at India Gate in the national capital.”
The sources also added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the venue at India Gate any of three days.
Aiming to attract children and youths and inculcate awareness about the armed forces, a representative video of surgical strike will be shown during the exhibition.
In the demonstration, the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force will display their equipment for public. They will also showcase the weapons they have captured from terrorists during operations.
On September 18, 2016, 17 soldiers were killed while 19 were injured in a terror attack on an Army camp near the town of Uri in Jammu and Kashmir. It was the deadliest attack on the Indian Army in at least two decades.
Eleven days after the attack, Special Forces of the Army conducted surgical strikes to destroy terror launchpads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Earlier, the University Grant Commission (UGC) has also written a letter to varsities and higher educational institutions to observe September 29 as the “Surgical Strike Day”.
