Amidst heightened tension between India and Pakistan on the western border, the Pakistani Army has made several unsuccessful attempts to intrude into the Indian territory along Gujarat and Rajasthan border areas through drones.
Post Balakot airstrike on February 26, the Indian armed forces have shot down four Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) at Kutch in Gujarat and Sriganganagar and Bikaner in Rajasthan.
It is learnt that the Pakistan army will continue to deploy drones for aerial surveys into the Indian territory.
According to sources in the army, “Such activities by the Pakistani army can be seen as aerial recce about the Indian military installations near the international boundary.”
A top level army official said, “Since our defence establishments are much away from the border. We easily detect and shoot the drones. We are strictly monitoring any airspace violation by our enemy. This was the reason we have brought down four of their drones in last 15 days.”
In the recent past, Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat had paid visit to international boundary in Rajasthan and Line of Control (LoC) areas in Jammu and Kashmir in a bid to review operational preparedness of the forces.
The cross-border aerial strikes by India were in retaliation for the suicide car bombing of a Central Reserve Police Force convoy in Pulwama in which 40 men were killed on February 14.
