Rajnath Singh honours Kargil War online quiz winners

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday honoured the winners of the online quiz competition on Kargil War here.

The quiz was jointly organised by Ministry of Defence and MyGov.infrom July 26 - August 4, 2019 on the occasion of 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas with the aim to create awareness and patriotic fervour among the people mostly youth, the defence ministry said.

Sixty thousand people from across the country participated in the quiz.

Cash prizes have been given to the top 10 winners, while 100 others received certificates from the minister.

The youngest winner is a 16-year old student, while the oldest is a retired bank employee aged 63 years.

The winners will attend the Independence Day Flag Hoisting Ceremony at Red Fort on Thursday.

Mr Singh congratulated the winners and appreciated their knowledge of the Kargil War. He said the whole country was behind our Armed Forces who secured a resounding victory for the nation. He also said the country is safe because of the strength and valour of our Armed Forces and the sacrifices made by them.

The minister said there has been unease in Pakistan following the recent government decision to nullify Article 370 and create Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. "However, the neighbouring country has no courage to take on us because it is very well aware of the strength and capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces," he added.
