Rajnath Singh pays tribute to former PM Vajpayee at Pokharan

Pokharan: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday paid tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his first death anniversary at Pokhran Military Station.

"The ceremony was also attended by Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Southern Command General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Lieutenant General SK Saini and Konark Corps General Officer Commanding Lieutenant General VS Sreenivas, Rajasthan-based Defence PRO Col Sombit Ghosh said.

Twenty One years ago, India had scripted a success story on May 11and May 13, 1998 when five nuclear tests were performed in Pokhran under the leadership of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Earlier, he attended the closing ceremony of 5th International Army Scout Masters Competition at Jaisalmer. India for the first time hosted and participated in the event. In the competition, Indian Army team ranked number one while Russsia and China stood at third and fourth spot.

A total of eight foreign teams participated in the event which was kicked off on August 6. (UNI)
