Home minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar on Wednesday on a two-day visit to the valley to review the security situation and pay obeisance at Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas. This is Singh’s first visit to the state after the collapse of the state government following BJP pulling out support from the coalition with the PDP last month. Officials told UNI that the minister arrived here on a two-day visit this evening. He was received by senior police, CRPF and civil administration officials, at the airport. He will review security arrangements put in place for the annual Amarnath yatra, which commenced on June 28 from both shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam routes. The yatra, however, was halted several times during the last six days due to bad weather. “Heading to Srinagar on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. During this visit the security situation of the state will be reviewed. Shall also perform darshan at the holy cave of Shri Amarnathji, [Sic]” Singh tweeted. Meanwhile, security has been increased in the city and adjoining areas in view of the visit of Singh to the valley. PDP president Mehbooba Mufti had to resign last month after the BJP pulled out from the coalition government in the state, where governor’s rule has been imposed.
