Rejecting the media reports claiming Washington has informally conveyed to Delhi that it could avoid sanctions under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) if India were to give an assurance that it would buy the F-16 fighter aircraft from the United States, the government on Monday termed the report as incorrect.
“This is to clarify that the news report is incorrect. No such discussions have been held by the ministry,” the defence ministry said.
In the beginning of this month, India signed a deal with Russia for acquiring five S-400 air defence missile systems worth 5.43 billion dollars.
