New Delhi: Terming it as “fake”, the Indian Army on Monday dismissed all the social media messages claiming that Emergency will be declared in the country in mid-April and Indian Army veterans and National Cadet Corps will be deployed to assist the civil administration to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

“Fake and malicious messages are circulating on social media about likely declaration of emergency in mid-April & employment of Indian Army, veterans, National Cadet Corps and National Service Scheme to assist the civil admn. It's clarified that this is absolutely fake: Indian Army,” the Indian Army said in a tweet.

Earlier in the morning, the government had categorically stated that there was no plan to extend the 21-day lockdown imposed to contain the coronavirus outbreak.

“There are rumours & media reports, claiming that the Government will extend the #Lockdown21 when it expires. The Cabinet Secretary has denied these reports, and stated that they are baseless,” the Press Information Bureau (PIB) tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 24 had announced complete lockdown across the country for 21 days to win the battle against Novel Coronavirus.

In his address to the nation, PM Modi had appealed to people to practice social distancing in order to stop the fast-spreading the coronavirus.

So far, the Indian Army has reported three COVID-19 positive cases.

An Army doctor holding the rank of Colonel posted at Command Hospital in Kolkata and a junior commissioned officer posted to an Army base in Dehradun tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.

Earlier, an Army soldier had tested positive for the deadly contagious virus in Leh.
